Will Sam Carver Return to Firehouse 51 on 'Chicago Fire'?

Last week, Chicago Fire lost a member of Firehouse 51 when Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) decided he needed to take a leave of absence to get a handle on his alcohol addiction issue. He confessed to Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), his lieutenant, that he'd begun drinking again and that he had been working double shifts at other firehouses because the only time he didn’t drink was when he was working.“I worked my whole life for this job, I don't want to risk losing it,” Carver told Stella, “But I’ve got to really get myself sorted out. I need a chance to build some kind of foundation, I guess, before I can rely on those [AA] meetings for help."🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬Since Carter had been clear that he never drank while on duty, Stella was supportive of his decision to get help, even though she’d have to break the news to Chief Pascal (Dermot Mulroney), who had cautioned her about keeping her team together earlier in the season. But Stella and Carver have become friends after a rough start in the beginning, so it was important to her to have his back.In fact, she told him, "I'm proud of you, Carver."

This isn’t the first time that Carver left. Carver took a furlough at the end of Season 12 to sort out some of his issues. But instead, when he returned to 51 from Texas, he had a toxic ex-girlfriend in tow who pushed all his buttons and encouraged him to drink and party to the detriment of his job. But he is still struggling with alcohol and the AA meetings he’s been attending haven’t been enough to soothe his cravings and keep his skin from crawling. So he’s headed to rehab – but he will be returning.“Carver will be back from his stint at rehab very soon,” showrunner Andrea Newman exclusively told Parade. “We really wanted to do justice to the addiction journey, and how nothing comes easy. So it’s a bumpy road for him and for the people who love him most.” One of those, of course, is Violet (Hanako Greensmith), who sensed that Carver had slipped when she caught him in a lie. He told her he had been at a meeting when he really had been on duty at another firehouse, and she heard him talking about it.Even so, when Stella broke the news to Violet that Carver was gone, Violet was very upset, "Gone? I didn't even get a text,” she said. But then later she found a note from Carver in her locker"You've always mattered," it read. "See you on the other side."As will we all.
