“1970 animation is better than this”: 5 Years and a Delay All Become a Waste After Junji Ito’s Best Horror Story Becomes One of the Worst Adaptations

Junji Ito is one of the most loved mangaka ever. He is one of the best writers in the horror genre, and there is barely anyone who comes close to him. Ito has written countless stories, and all of them have a deeper meaning than what appears to the naked eye. Recently, one of the best works of Junji Ito, Uzumaki, was animated into a mini-series.
Fans had a lot of expectations from the anime, especially since the manga was quite popular among the new generation of manga readers. Initially, it started on a great note, but with each episode, the quality of animation has degraded. The mini-series is scheduled to have four episodes, but the second episode’s animation has caused fans to riot on social media.
Uzumaki’s Animation Is Failing Junji Ito’s Creation

Uzumaki was one of the most anticipated anime of 2024. Even though it was a mini-series, fans were quite excited to see the anime finally happening. It was announced in 2019, and for the last five years, they have been working to make the anime perfect. The first episode was released on September 29, 2024, and received positive reviews from the fans. However, as soon as the second episode was released, the fans became disappointed with the animation quality.

Uzumaki Anime Sees a heavy drop in animation in episode 2. What actually even happened??pic.twitter.com/c2aZznqsDm— Anime News And Facts (@AniNewsAndFacts) October 6, 2024

The animation felt like it was made during the 1970s, with no smoothness or versatility present. Animation is one of the things that the modern generation of anime is paying a great deal of attention to. They make the anime more appealing, but as for Uzumaki, the animation has made it more burdensome to watch. The character movements and background have had a major drop, and it felt like a completely different anime.

There was no attention given to details, and everything felt too forced. Considering the anime took five years to premiere, the sudden drop in quality in the second episode came as a shock to the fans. Fans are worried that the next two episodes might have worse animation. Production I. G. USA is a popular animation studio, but their recent venture disheartened the fans. If the animation is not improved, Uzumaki might change into a comedy from horror.
Fans React To Uzumaki’s Episode 2 Animation

After experiencing Uzumaki’s animation, the fans started to lose hope regarding the animation. While the animation industry is at its peak, Junji Ito’s magnum opus is failing at every level to leave an impact. Social media erupted after watching a glimpse of the animation. There were several comments regarding the horrendous animation with nothing praiseworthy. They believed that it was a cheap scheme to get people hooked to the anime and later degrade the animation.

What kind of fuckin animation is this 1970 animation is better than this shit— Toki chirikito (@Zoro_swor) October 6, 2024

The show is 4 episodes and they couldn't even keep the same quality all the way??? What the fuck were they doing for 5 years— junior (@JuniorReyes17) October 6, 2024

This is straight up a scam at this point. They showed us amazing looking trailers and even AN AMAZING LOOKING 1ST EPISODE TO GET US HOOKED AND THEN THE 2ND EPISODE HAPPENED LOL.— VowedPrinciple (@VowedPrinciple) October 6, 2024

rip 💀— Angelica Reed (@Angelica_Reed1) October 6, 2024

This looks worse than the other Junji Ito anime wtf is this shit— 🅱︎🅸︎🅰︎🅺︎🅷︎🅰︎🅽︎ (@Biak1_) October 7, 2024

There are two more episodes left, and it will be the last chance for the mini-series to correct their mistakes. Production I.G. USA also needs to give their best in the upcoming episodes to redeem themselves. For the moment, the fans not keeping much hope from the anime. Even Junji Ito would be disappointed if he had to experience such a massive drop in quality.
Uzumaki is available to watch on Hulu.
