Naoki Urasawa’s Approach that Makes Monster Such a Masterpiece Could Save The Beginning After the End’s Anime
The Beginning After the End is among the most exciting manga that gained immense popularity for its well-crafted story of redemption and self-discovery. The story revolves around the protagonist Arthur Leywin, who turns out to be the rebirth of a former king, struggling through the chaos of his past and present life while finding another chance for redemption and another new beginning.

But underneath its excellent narrative, there is a fact that disappointed many viewers. Will the anime adaptation overcome these defects of the manga, making it more entertaining for the fans? Only time can tell, but one thing is for sure, The Beginning After the End has it all to turn into one unforgettable anime experience.
The Beginning After The End Manga Has Some Serious Character Writing Issues

While the manga indeed has an intriguing premise, its very significant character writing issues make it hard to swallow. Perhaps the biggest jarring issue would be, how it treats side characters, who often seem closer to cardboard cutouts than actually fully fleshed-out individuals. Some such characters are the inventor girl, the members of the student council, and the members of the student disciplinary committee.
They only feature in the book as a space filler, leaving no trace once the story moves away from them. They seem to be completely undeveloped and do not have any meaningful communication with the protagonist, Arthur.

The Lances is another example of misuse of a potentially interesting character. They are supposed to be an elite group that wields huge power. What seemed to be a promising plot by the adventurer group of the Twin Horns did exactly the opposite with an anticlimactic confrontation against bandits. This kind of narrative flaw raises a question about whether the author would ever be able to create good, well-integrated support characters.
To Succeed, This Anime Adaptation Should Take Cues From Monster and Solo Leveling

To really take off, The Beginning After the End anime adaptation should borrow a page or two from Naoki Urasawa’s Monster and popular manhwa-turned-anime Solo Leveling. It needs to work on its side characters. Naoki Urasawa sees side characters to be just as important as the main characters and he treats them as such. TBATE very often suffers from one-dimensional support characters who feel rather flat and wasted.
Solo Leveling also comes as a good example. This series was initially under fire for not doing justice to the side characters. However, the second season of the anime adaptation promises a great job of addressing this issue by providing more screen time for side characters. With the same thought, TBATE anime can bring to life its poorer character list, and thus a richer and more intensive visual experience would come forth.

By taking notes from them, this anime adaptation can overcome the shortcomings of its source material, so that each character can feel fully fleshed out and necessary to the narrative, not just Arthur. With this more fine-tuned perspective, the anime will present the type of experience that one would wish to be emotionally invested in. It will also leave the manga fans interested in whether or not the entire cast of characters made it.
