Edge Malcolm Simpson discusses offer from Nebraska and setting up an OV to check out Lincoln
One of the last players that Nebraska made sure to stop and see during the spring evaluation period was 2025 Edge Malcolm Simpson. Simpson has recently transferred from Galveston (Texas) Ball and is now at Hitchcock (Texas). The 6-foot-3 and 255-pound Simpson got a visit from the Nebraska defensive line coach who offered him in person.
“Coach Knighton from Nebraska came to my school, we talked, and he offered me face-to-face,” Simpson said. “It was surprising to have a coach from Nebraska give me an offer personally. That has never happened before, and I really appreciated that.”
Simpson has some understanding of Nebraska. Specifically, how good they were in the 1990s. He does know that Nebraska has an exceptional freshman defender from Texas and he watched some of his highlights from last season.
“What I know about Nebraska is that Nebraska used to be way better than Alabama or Georgia,” Simpson said. “They basically used to be Alabama and Georgia combined. I heard about their defensive lineman, Princewill Umanmielen, and he was ridiculous. He was a freshman All-American.”
Coach Knighton sees some of himself in Simpson and shared as much with the four-star recruit. Simpson says that Nebraska sees him as a player who will line up at different spots in their defense.
“He sees me as a player who has good potential,” Simpson said. “They see me moving around. He told me that I reminded him of himself when he was in college.
“They like me playing the four, five, seven, and the line. I am going to have to get comfortable with playing a little bit of everything at the next level. I have no choice.”
Malcolm Simpson is close to setting up an official visit to Nebraska
Simpson has one official visit set up for this coming weekend. He is talking to Nebraska about setting up his official visit to Lincoln for the last weekend in June.
“I am supposed to be going to Texas Tech on the 7th through the 9th,” Simpson said. “And I am supposed to be going to Nebraska on June 21st. It’s not completely set up yet for Nebraska. But it would be for that weekend.”
Simpson wants to see the team and the staff being a family while on his official visit. He wants a team that looks after one another and has leaders throughout the team.
“I want to experience the team being a family,” Simpson said. “A team that takes care of each other. I want to see leadership from the team.”
There are plans to go to church camp, and once Simpson returns, he plans to set up his official visits. Three schools are in the picture for his remaining official visits.
“Besides Texas Tech and Nebraska, I am thinking about going to Kansas, USC, and Baylor,” Simpson said. “I am about to go to church camp, and once I get back, I will have everything set up.”
#AGTG I am thankful for the great conversation I had with @Coach_Knighton . I am truly humbled and blessed to say I have received an offer from the University of Nebraska pic.twitter.com/HiBhj7HUYQ— Malcolm Simpson (@Malcolm63573618) May 20, 2024
