The RPCS3 PlayStation emulator gets major performance improvements
RPCS3 is the biggest PlayStation 3 emulator available, allowing players to go beyond the limits of Sony’s old console and reviving older titles through higher frame rates and resolutions. The team behind the project have been steadfast in their commitment to continually improving the emulator – with the most recent update bringing major performance improvements.
Making the announcement on Twitter, the official RPCS3 team revealed that “Further SPU optimisations from developer elad335 have allowed for great performance gains on low end CPUs!”
Alongside the announcement, the team shared some screenshots, showing the improvements as a result of this update, with Demon’s Souls doubling in FPS count and Persona 5 seeing a solid 30% increase on a 4 cores / 4 threads CPU setup.
Over the years, RPCS3 has gone from strength-to-strength, seeing pretty much every single PS3 game become bootable, adding FSR and a whole lot more to the emulator – making it by far one of the most impressive feats in the space.
Of course, unlike Nintendo, Sony does not appear to be interfering with their work in any way, likely allowing for such continuous improvements. It’ll be exciting to see what else the team announces in the future.
