NEWTOWN, CT — A Stratford man was taken into custody Thursday in Newtown after a traffic stop led to the discovery of firearms ammunition in his possession, authorities said.Michael A. Rivera, 42, was stopped by Newtown police around 1 p.m. on Feb. 27 after officers observed his vehicle failing to display a front registration plate. During the investigation, officers determined Rivera, a convicted felon, was in possession of firearms ammunition, police said.Rivera was charged with operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, improper use of a marker, failure to display plates, operating a motor vehicle under suspension due to an alcohol-related offense, and criminal possession of a firearm, ammunition, or a deadly weapon by a convicted felon.He is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on March 11.Bridgeport Woman Cited for Driving ViolationsA Bridgeport woman was taken into custody Sunday in connection with motor vehicle violations, according to local authorities.Ashley Renee Gibbs, 29, was stopped around 5:46 p.m. on March 2 at 160 South Main Street, officials said. She was cited for operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance and driving with a suspended license.Gibbs was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in court on March 21.Danbury Man Charged with Driving Under SuspensionA Danbury man was taken into custody last week after being stopped for driving with a suspended license, authorities said.Antwan Coles, 29, was stopped on Feb. 27 at 10:14 p.m. on Fir Tree Lane, according to police. He was cited for operating a motor vehicle under suspension.Coles was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in court on March 14.Man Taken into Custody on Outstanding Warrant Following Incident in NewtownA Newtown man was taken into custody last week on an outstanding warrant after officers responded to a report of a woman jumping from a moving vehicle, police said.Officers were called to the intersection of Johnnie Cake Lane and Mt. Pleasant Road around 9:55 p.m. on Feb. 24, where they found the vehicle parked on Johnnie Cake Lane with only the driver, identified as Jacob T. Enriquez, inside.Enriquez told officers that his girlfriend had jumped from the vehicle while he was driving slowly eastbound on Mt. Pleasant Road. She was later located on Martin Street and transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment, authorities said.During the investigation, officers learned that Enriquez had an active PRAWN warrant issued by Troop A in Southbury. He was charged with second-degree failure to appear and was released after posting 7 percent of his $1,000 bond.
