Bollywood star Akshay Kumar is among the most talented actors in the Hindi film industry. Since his debut in 1987, he has delivered several blockbuster hits. His latest venture, Sarfira, marks his 150th film as a lead actor. The inspirational drama has received critical acclaim for its storyline and performances. While Akshay has made his name as a global icon, very few know that his real name is Rajiv Bhatia.
During the promotions of Sarfira, Akshay opened up about the reason that prompted him to change his name.

Akshay Kumar is currently basking in the positive reviews for his latest release, Sarfira. Recently, in an interview with Galatta Plus, the actor opened up about his real name and why he decided to change it. Reportedly, the reason is associated with his debut movie Aaj.
However, the actor did not play the lead role in the film, Kumar Gaurav did. He starred in a cameo appearance as a karate instructor. During the interview, he said, “Do you know what was Kumar Gaurav’s name in the film? Akshay. That’s how I got my name. Not many people know this. So, my real name is Rajiv, and during the shoot, I just casually asked what is the name of the hero in the film, they said Akshay, I told them, I want to keep my name as Akshay!”
Kumar continued, “Rajiv is a good name and I think back then, Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister. So it was a great name but I changed it just aise hi (just like that). It wasn’t like some pandit advised me to change my name!” He further revealed his parents’ reaction to his name change. “My father also asked me, what’s wrong with you? But I told him the same, that the hero’s name in my first film was this, so I will keep it!”
Since his first film, Akshay Kumar has starred in several blockbuster films that have gone on to become cult classics amongst his fandom.
