Amazon’s God of War series confirmed for 10-episode first season
Back in late 2022, Amazon announced that they had greenlit a Prime Video TV show based on Sony’s God of War series. Pre-production slowed to a crawl after that, as it was reported that the scripts needed to be reworked. Now, with filming due to start soon, we finally have a new update on the series.
At San Diego Comic Con, new details about the God of War series were revealed. Showrunner, Ronald D. Moore told Collider in an interview that scripts were still a work in progress, but game director, Cory Barlog, is now involved with the series to help shape the direction of the series. Barlog famously directed the 2018 God of War reboot, which re-introduced Kratos as a father figure.
The series plans to adapt the more recent games, God of War (2018) and Ragnarök (2022). Those games were already very cinematic and story-heavy, so the series may serve as more of a way to retell that story for the non-gaming crowd, similar to The Last of Us, although that show did end up making some significant changes to certain events.
There is still no word on when we'll get to see the series, or even a trailer. Filming will begin sometime in 2026 and so far, at least two 10-episode seasons are planned.
