Miami Hurricanes DT Ahmad Moten looking to work way into rotation, says after Tuesday drills that “We are all just working”

The Miami Hurricanes have a totally revamped interior defense this season, adding anticipated starters CJ Clark and Simeon Barrow out of the portal along with another interior transfer, Marley Cook.
But there is also a returning tackle who played last year off the bench looking to push into that rotation: Redshirt sophomore Ahmad Moten.
The former 4-star out of Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons High School redshirted as a freshman in 2022, then played in 11 games last season and had two tackles as well as an interception off a tipped pass in the regular season finale at Boston College.
He played 146 total reps on the year, per Pro Football Focus, and graded out at 60.7 percent overall (62.1 run defense, 35.9 tackle grade, 54.0 pass rush grade).
Moten’s looking to step up and play a bigger role this season.
“We are all just working,” Moten said. “My role on this team is make sure everyone is better – myself, the D line, offensive line, quarterbacks, wide receivers. Just go out there and grind every day.”
Moten also says the team is having fun, and recounted how QB Cam Ward will tell S Mishael Powell in a practice that he’s going after him on a play, and then do that and find Xavier Restrepo.
“What I hate about Cam Ward is when he has a good play you never hear the end of it – you hear it all the way to the locker room, to team meetings, to dinner,” Moten joked.
He says helping his progress was “Dropping weight was a big thing I did, getting in shape.”
He adds “my role is to help anyway I can.”
A final thought from Moten?
He says there’s plenty of depth up front.
“When you have young guys like (true freshman) Justin Scott to go in with the ones (that helps) – when all of us are on the same page there are no starters for us,” Moten said. “Our group of guys is a special group of guys, nothing like it. We all stick together as brothers.
“We are competing every day, iron sharpens iron.”
