Formula One icon Martin Brundle has been mocked across social media for congratulating Conor Benn on his boxing defeat to Chris Eubank Jr.
The British former racing driver and broadcaster interviewed Benn in the Miami Grand Prix paddock this weekend when the incident occurred.
Brundle regularly speaks to celebrities and sports stars at F1 races but appeared to have no idea Benn had actually lost his fight with Eubank Jr.
Benn suffered defeat to his bitter rival Eubank Jr by unanimous decision at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month in a gruelling 12-round bout.
‘Wow, what a boxing match that was, congratulations,’ Brundle said to Benn at the Miami Grand Prix in an interview which has since gone viral online.
Benn awkwardly replied: ‘Thank you… I appreciate that. Although it was a great fight, I didn’t get the W (win) which I came for.
‘So hopefully we’ll run it back in September (for a rematch) and I can make amends.
‘This is my first time here (at the Miami Grand Prix), it’s absolutely amazing, what an event, what an occasion, I see why loads of people turn up.’
F1 and boxing fans have been reacting the the awkward interaction on social media with @Rory_Talks_Ball posting: ‘Honestly I was dying inside.’
‘Usually Brundle is the one quick on his toes, not this time,’ @bitofabundy added with a laughing emoji.

‘Felt stressed watching it,’ a third viewer, @MJBurton23, said. ‘So awkward.’
‘Martin Brundle congratulating Conor Benn on a fight he lost is the cringiest thing I have ever seen,’ @CH4R4K opined.
‘Shame Benn didn’t knock him out for it,’ @freesparkles wrote.
@OJM_1992 posted: ‘Whoops @SkySportsF1 clearly did not brief him in his ear correctly!!!’
After the incident, Oscar Piastri went on to claim victory in Miami, with the McLaren star having now won four of the six races so far this season.
It was a one-two for McLaren out in the United States with Great Britain’s Lando Norris – Piastri’s teammate – finishing as runner-up.
There was another Brit on the podium too with Mercedes driver George Russell landing third.
Current F1 champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull ended up fourth with Ferrari racer Lewis Hamilton down in eighth.
