12 Responds: What's going on with water service in Cumberland?

CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WPRI) — Some Cumberland residents have been curious about disruptions in the town's water service.
There have been a series of water main breaks over the past year. The water department said aging water lines are a big problem.
Many of the water lines are 40 to 50 years old, and there are currently about 140 miles' worth of pipes in the system that need to be upgraded in the next several years.
A $3 million project replaced a major line on Diamond Hill Road about a decade ago and officials say a similar project may be needed on Mendon Road.
As for disruptions, the town said they try to give residents an advanced notice when repairs will be done, but it's not always possible with an emergency.
