Eligible residents of Atlanta, Georgia can submit a claim to get a rebate of up to $2,000 on the purchase of an electric bike.
The Atlanta E-Bike Rebate Program is designed to provide affordable transportation options for City of Atlanta residents.
The program targets low and middle-income households.
Funded by a $1,000,000 investment from the City of Atlanta, “this initiative aims to break down barriers to e-bike ownership, reduce transportation costs, and replace solo car trips to work, the grocery store, and local parks and recreation centers,” according to the website.
HOW MUCH?
There are four different levels of payment up for grabs.
Non income-qualified residents can get $500 off a standard e-bike or $1,000 off a cargo e-bike.
Cargo e-bikes are designed to transport heavy loads and people, including shopping, children, or pets.
Income-qualified residents can get $1,000 off a standard e-bike or $1,000 off a cargo e-bike.
To be income-qualified, recipients must have a household income of no more than 80% of the Atlanta region’s area median income, which is at or below $60,200 for an individual.
For a family of four, it is $86,000.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
There are four eligibility criteria you must meet to claim a payment.
First, you must be a City of Atlanta resident
You must also be at least 18 years old.
You must submit an online application between Sunday, June 16 and Sunday, June 23.
How to claim the rebate
The program will provide an upfront rebate known as a point-of-sale rebate, which means the rebate amount is deducted from the price of the bike when you buy it at local bike shop.
You don’t have to submit a receipt and get reimbursed after the purchase.
Rebates are limited to one per City of Atlanta resident and bikes must be purchased at a participating local bike shop.
If you are selected to receive an e-bike rebate, you must provide documentation that verifies your eligibility.
Rebate recipients will be selected during the week of June 23.
The city may issue further rebates and open future application rounds on a rolling basis.
Atlanta is not the only place where residents can get their hands on some free money.
Texans can get $3,000 for installing solar panels.
And Boulder, Colorado is handing out $318 as a food tax rebate.
