Among Branford's Bravest, Firefighter/Paramedic Promoted To Captain
BRANFORD, CT — Branford Fire Department Firefighter/Paramedic Garrett Lizee was last week promotion to Captain. And the department took to Facebook to congratulate him. "We look forward to his continued leadership and commitment to excellence in his new role," firefighters posted.According to Branford Fire Chief Tom Mahoney, now-Captain Lizee began his fire service career with the West Shore Fire Department in West Haven before joining the Branford Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic in 2019. "Garrett quickly distinguished himself through his proactive approach to educating and mentoring his colleagues, earning him the role of Emergency Medical Services Educator for the department," Mahoney told Patch."In 2024, his dedication to continuous learning and mentorship was recognized with the prestigious Paul Cipriani Award," Mahoney noted.The late firefighter/paramedic Cipriani, who had retired in 2016 and passed away in 2021, served the town for 46 years. His career began in 1970 with Engine Co. 9. He then joined Branford Ambulance in 1986 and in 1993, as one of the first Firefighter/Paramedics, he became a member of the Branford Professional Firefighters Association. The award is in his honor.Lizee holds a Bachelor of Science in Fire and Arson Investigation with a minor in Fire Administration. He is a certified Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor I, and Emergency Medical Services Instructor, Mahoney said. He currently serves with Engine 9 at the Indian Neck Fire Station.The department's newest captain, Lizee was officially sworn in last week by Fire Commission Chairman Robert Massy with his wife Sarah and their son, Aidan, by his side.
