In October 2019, authorities discovered the lifeless bodies of two women in different parts of Cape Coral, Florida. After the police initiated the investigation, they arrested a man named Wade Wilson for the murders. However, Wilson pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. He subsequently went to trial and received a guilty verdict. During the trial, prosecutors tried to prove how and why Wilson killed those women.
In the opening statements of the trial, prosecutors revealed how the investigators discovered the bodies of both victims. Citing the prosecution, WBBH News reported that one of the victims’ faces was “black and blue.” Meanwhile, investigators discovered the body of the second victim “under shrubs” with several rib fractures. Prosecutors also presented evidence and testimonies from people who claimed that Wilson told them about the murders.
One of the most crucial testimonies in the trial came from Wade Wilson’s father who told the court that his son was “excited” while talking about the murders. He told the court that Wilson told him about the murders explicitly and wanted his father to feel the excitement as well. Although the prosecution presented a lot of witnesses during the trial, they could not confirm Wade Wilson’s motive behind these killings.
What was convicted killer Wade Wilson’s motive?

During the testimony of Wade Wilson’s father, when the prosecution asked him if his son sounded proud, he said, “Yes.” He also clarified that Wilson didn’t show any remorse for his actions. Additionally, he said that he initially wanted to help his son, but his feelings changed when he started to think about the crime. The father said, “I just thought what if that was my mom, or my daughter, sister, or wife, I wouldn’t want somebody to do that.”
The prosecution told the jury that Wade Wilson killed two women just for the “sake of killing,” reported WBBH News. They also presented the audio recording of the initial interrogation in which Wilson confessed and said he would “do it again.”
The accused is currently at the Lee County Jail in Fort Myers, Florida. His sentencing hearing will take place on July 23, 2024.
A documentary titled The Cape Coral Serial Strangler explores Wade Wilson’s crimes in great depth. It is available for streaming on the official YouTube channel of Law&Crime Network.
