French Open: After Iga Swiatek, Novak Djokovic Falls Prey to Boisterous Crowd Boos in a Heated Philippe Chatrier Moment
As the action moved to the French Open last week, players have been greeted by a large Parisian crowd. However, the fans here boast an infamous history of controversies. During the past tournaments here, there have been many incidents of arguments between fans and players. Additionally, the decibel levels here are second to none. As a result, Iga Swiatek, after her match against Naomi Osaka yesterday, made her feelings felt about this. She wasn’t the only one as Novak Djokovic also suffered a similar fate.
The Serb is currently playing his second-round match against Roberto Carballes Baena. Djokovic, who has often been at the receiving end as far as crowd behavior during the matches is concerned, was subjected to more inappropriate behavior by a section of fans. During the first set, Djokovic approached the umpire to complain about the noise in between the points.
The incident went viral on social media and was shared by many, who gave their divided opinions on this matter. After Djokovic complained to the chair umpire, he was greeted by boos from the fans inside the stadium.

Despite things appearing to get heated in Court Philippe-Chatrier, Djokovic maintained his cool as he broke his Spanish opponent in that game to win the opening set. The Serb took no time in settling things down as he took the second set comfortably, dropping just a solitary game.
During Swiatek’s match against Osaka yesterday, a similar controversial moment erupted as fans got vocal in between the points. The Polish star kept her calm during the match to win it in a thrilling fashion and expressed her displeasure after the match. On the contrary, Coco Gauff had other ideas as far as crowd noise at her matches was concerned.
Coco Gauff’s contradicting opinion to that of Iga Swiatek and Novak Djokovic
Like Swiatek and Djokovic, Coco Gauff was also welcomed with a loud noise during her second-round match against Tamara Zidanšek at the ongoing French Open. However, the American sensation used that to her advantage and defeated her opponent comfortably in straight sets. Subsequently, she went on to thank the crowd for putting up the energy to cheer her.
Gauff revealed, “Thank you guys, especially over here and then there too, so thank you guys, it got very loud towards the end. I think there’s like this group of boys over here and I heard you guys uh so thank you, but yeah, I love coming to Paris uh it’s my favorite city.”
With things getting more interesting at the French Open, the decibel levels are going to increase even further. It remains to be seen how the top players in men’s and women’s tennis are able to cope with this.
