Display the American Flag! It’s Flag Day! / On this day 246 years ago, Congress created our national flag, the first of 27 variations of the Stars and Stripes design. Over the years, as the 13 colonies grew into the 50 states, the flag today displays 50 white stars. Though a national holiday, it’s not a federal holiday. Mail will be delivered. Banks are open. Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, is an annual commemoration of June 19, 1865, the day that General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform its citizens that all enslaved people were officially free.
