MSI is adding a “TDP to 105W” setting for the Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X

It has been discovered that certain AMD MSI 600-series motherboards are already receiving the new AGESA 1.2.0.1 firmware. For those who may not be aware, this firmware introduces a feature that allows users to adjust the TDP to 105W for the Ryzen 7 9700X and the Ryzen 5 9600X.
Although AMD does not officially sanction this function, MSI is adding this feature to some of its motherboards. Kuroberu (via Wccftech) tested this capability on an X670E MPG Carbon motherboard and noted significant performance improvements, particularly for the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, which has a 65W TDP. Kuroberu's findings suggest that enabling the 105W TDP option could potentially enhance performance, with the user claiming that the Cinbench R23 multi-core score increased by 13% (from 20,409 to 23,153).
While AMD has no official confirmation regarding the TDP adjustment feature, reports suggest that this functionality will likely become an official option in the upcoming AGESA 1.2.0.2 release.
The availability of this feature in future BIOS updates for other motherboard manufacturers is expected to come soon, likely as beta in an initial phase. Stable releases should come a couple of months later.
KitGuru says: These are just synthetic benchmarks, and it remains to be seen if this mode will provide any performance gains in games. AMD is also working on various CPU optimisations for its Zen 5 (and Zen 4) CPUs, including the Branch Prediction patch. All these things together might make Zen 5 more interesting than the initial reviews suggested. The post MSI is adding a “TDP to 105W” setting for the Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X first appeared on KitGuru.
