Denton Diablos FC Defeats FC Brownsville 1-0
By Denton Diablos FC
In what could easily be considered a neutral site venue, the Diablos ventured far outside the friendly confines of TWU Pioneer Soccer Park in search of anywhere dry enough to get in their weather-delayed match from Thursday, May 28 against FC Brownsville.
On a humid and cloudy Sunday afternoon, the Diablos wasted little time setting the tone for the match. In just the third minute of play, Ian McGill’s free kick service found Thato Meko who redirected the Brownsville clearance into the path of Brian Miralrio. Then Miralrio took it from there, burying the shot for the 1-0 lead.
Both teams would see multiple chances turned back from excellent goalkeeping and sturdy framework. In the 79th minute FC Brownsville went a man down after losing their captain to a second yellow card and an early exit with the red card.
The Diablos thwarted the final attempts from Brownsville before the referee blew his whistle for full time. The Diablos collected their much-deserved three points, while McGill collected the first clean sheet of the season. With the 1-0 win, the Diablos rose to the top of the LoneStar Conference standings with an undefeated 3-0-1 record.
The Diablos head south to face CF10 Houston FC on Thursday, June for their second away game of the season before returning to the friendly confines of TWU Pioneer Soccer Park on June 15 as they host Laredo Heat SC.
