North Babylon High's Class of 2024 Celebrates Graduation
NORTH BABYLON, — Joined by administrators, board of education members, teachers, friends and families, the North Babylon High School’s Class of 2024 celebrated its commencement on June 26 on the high school football field.Led by the North Babylon Fire Company Color Guard, the seniors marched onto the field to “Pomp and Circumstance.” The senior members of the concert choir and orchestra, led by Ms. Buehler and Ms. Verderosa, then performed “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Seniors Beth Ganser and Talia Maio then performed a duet of “Slipping Through My Fingers,” joined on the guitar by William Pena.North Babylon School District’s Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth Graham welcomed guests to the commencement exercises before bestowing well wishes on the Class of 2024. “Continue to be the outstanding young men and women that you have become; we wish you the very best as you move to the next chapter,” he said.North Babylon High School Assistant Principals Colleen Ligonde and Jeffrey Raymond, Physical Education and Athletic Director Jason Friesen, Fine and Performing Arts Director Elizabeth O’Brien and Guidance Director Stephen Dombo shared some of the many accomplishments of the Class of 2024. North Babylon High School Principal Dr. Jonathan Klomp encouraged the soon-to-be graduates to embrace the journey ahead. “You, the Class of 2024, have taken a journey through North Babylon’s five elementary schools and came together at Robert Moses Middle School and you became North Babylon’s Class of 2024 there,” he said “And today you finish your high school journey on our field in front of your teachers, your parents and families and, of course, your classmates. You have grown and matured alone and together, shared milestones, and yet your journey that feels like an end, is only the beginning for you.”North Babylon School District Board of Education President Matthew Lucchetti spoke about persevering through the challenges that may lie ahead. “Not every choice will always be the right one; there may be bumps along the way,” he said. “However, you can take comfort in knowing you have the tools and resources necessary to make the best decisions possible. Remember that your path is determined by your actions and all successful individuals have a plan and will stop at nothing to see their vision come to light.”Senior class president James Veneroni spoke about graduation as the beginning of a new chapter, not the end of the story. “There is so much ahead and, one day, whether it’s in a year’s time, or 10, 20, 30 years you may see that fellow Bulldog currently sitting next to your left or right again. Maybe it’ll be at a reunion or just on the street, but when that time comes have an experience to share. We don’t live forever, so, when we see each other again, just remember to share a goal, that you may know is possible now, that you’ll go on to achieve. That way, when we look back on our lives, we can be so distracted by all the things we have gotten to do rather than the things that we wish we did.” Salutatorian Minal Sabir told her classmates to never underestimate the power of hard work.“Goals evolve and your dreams can transform, but that hard work will always remain,” she said. “No matter what you do, when you put your whole heart and soul into something, I guarantee you will see a positive outcome. While it may seem like our journey is ending, it is only beginning. As we celebrate our achievements, we must also look forward to the future and continue to set ambitious goals, to challenge ourselves, and to embrace the grind.”Taking risks and setting goals was the theme of the speech given by Class of 2024 valedictorian Kathryn Iudica. “When it comes to moving on to our next chapter in life, make sure to challenge yourself every day, as you can only get back as much as you put in,” she said. “You miss 100% of the shots you don't take, so don't let fear get the best of you. One of the worst feelings is that empty question of ‘what if?’ Taking risks doesn’t mean you're being irresponsible; it means you’re taking advantage of the possibilities that you were given. This is the time to make your mark, and set yourself up for the life that will make you happy. So, take risks, set goals, and make the most of every day going forward."Dr. Klomp, Mr. Lucchetti and Kim Skillen, deputy superintendent for instruction, then presented the students for graduation. Students recited the graduation oath and then made their way to the stage one by one to be presented with their certificates. After all the names were called, the students tossed their caps high in the air to signify their official status as graduates of the Class of 2024.The article North Babylon High's Class of 2024 Celebrates Graduation appeared first on Deer Park-North Babylon, NY Patch.
