He has won three Super Bowls alongside Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Co, but aged 36 is now thinking of calling it a day.
Per Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports,Winchester has been seriously considering ending his career.
Prior to last month’s Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the former Oklahoma star discussed his future with Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest.
“Man, well, we’re rolling right now,” he said. “And this is a special organization, a special team.
“Having the opportunity to play for Hall of Fame coaches, with future Hall of Famers, it’s unreal.
“I’ve had the opportunity to be with Travis, Pat, Harrison (Butker), Chris (Jones), and these guys for a long time.
“I think it’s one of those things that you just evaluate after every season.”
Winchester went undrafted in 2013 following his college career at Oklahoma.
The experienced vet was briefly signed by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013, before landing his big break with the Chiefs two years later.
Winchester has contributed heavily down the years and is tied with Kelce for the most playoff appearances by a Chiefs player, with 25.
Last March he signed a one-year, $1,377,500 extension with the Chiefs.
With NFL free agency looming, he will soon have to make a decision.
Free agency officially begins next Wednesday.
Following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss in New Orleans last month, speculation circulated surrounding Kelce’s future.
The tight end is understood to have seriously considered hanging up his cleats following the defeat.
But Chiefs general manager Brett Veach later announced that Kelce would be carrying on after all.
He said Kelce was “fired up” about entering the final year of his contract, and playing.
“We left it as, he’d be back and we’re excited to get him back and get him going,” he added.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Veach made the declaration while at the NFL Combine.
Kelce is under contract for next season, having signed a two-year, $34.25m deal in 2024.
