San Francisco 49ers makes $45 million Brock Purdy contract decision – but fans want quarterback released
THE San Francisco 49ers are working with quarterback Brock Purdy on a potential contract extension.
Purdy is entering the final year of his contract with the 49ers, and is set for a massive payday.

Purdy went on a meteoric rise after being the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
He burst onto the scene in 2022, winning all five games he started in relief of Jimmy Garoppolo.
Purdy was given the starting job in 2023 where he broke out as an MVP candidate.
He passed for 4,280 yards with 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Purdy led the league in touchdown percentage, passer rating, and QBR.
That strong year resulted in his first Pro Bowl bid and MVP votes, but he regressed in 2024.
The 49ers had an awful year last season, missing the playoffs after playing their way into the Super Bowl in 2023.
Purdy was just 6-9 as a starter, passing for 3,864 yards with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
He was not named to the Pro Bowl or received votes for any awards this past season.
Because Purdy wasn’t drafted in the first round, the 49ers don’t have the ability to use a fifth-year option on him.
The 2025 season is the final year on his contract before the 49ers have to pay him considerably more than his current $5 million salary.
According to reporter Jason La Canfora, the 49ers have started their contract talks with Purdy at $45 million per year.
That contract value would place Purdy at a tie for the 12th highest paid quarterback in the league next to Kirk Cousins and Patrick Mahomes.
Players like Jared Goff, Dak Prescott, and Tua Tagovailoa would all be making more than Purdy.
NFL fans believe that Purdy should take the money though, as many aren’t sure if he would get it anywhere else.
