There is a growing feeling leaguewide that the 34-year-old picking up his $48.8 million player option for next season to force the Clippers to trade him is an increasingly realistic scenario after months of fruitless contract extension negotiations between the parties.Source: marcstein.substack.com

If Paul George opts in, and winds up getting a max extension on a new team after a trade… is it at all possible that could go down without any tampering? Or would that be a 100% tampering scenario? – 2:23 PM

Alex Caruso is off the trade market. Pascal Siakam and Malik Monk have agreed to stay with their current teams. Paul George might be off the board, too.

ClutchPoints: “[Paul George] could opt-in and get traded by this weekend. That is something that is going to come to a head in the next day or two… We’re gonna see some action in that very quickly after the draft.” — Brian Windhorst 🗣️ (via @GetUpESPN) pic.twitter.com/gwAkB5gofS -via Twitter @ClutchPointsApp / June 24, 2024
After signing Leonard to a three-year, $153 million extension during the season, that mark essentially set the standard for the Clippers in future negotiations with George, who the organization views as the team’s second-best player behind a healthy Leonard. However, George is expected to command maximum contract offers from other teams on the free agent market, which puts the Clippers in a pickle. The franchise doesn’t want to upset Leonard, who took less than the maximum amount to extend with the Clippers but could lose George in the process if the organization doesn’t improve its current offer. -via HoopsHype / June 24, 2024
