Auburn leads for 4-star CB Donovan Starr after official visit
Four-star cornerback Donovan Starr took an official visit to Auburn this week and left with the Tigers atop his list of favorites.
“Auburn definitely is at the top of my list,” he said. “I’d say at the top. Auburn probably leads right now.”
Starr, who attends Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tenn., arrived in Auburn on Tuesday and left Thursday morning. He met extensively with cornerbacks coach Wesley “Crime Dog” McGriff, who is a big reason why Starr left with Auburn as the team to beat.
“I met all the coaches, saw the campus and dorms and all that stuff,” he said. “Coach Crime is a great dude and great coach. He has shown constant love, just being with him the whole time and learning more from him. Coach Crime told me I’m a priority and that sticks out to me a lot. You want to ultimately go where people want you and you’re a priority.”
And it wasn’t just McGriff that Starr was impressed with during his visit.
“The way they took care of my family, that stands out to me a lot.,” he said. “The people, nobody seems like they’re putting a face on or pretending. It seems everyone here is genuine. They love football. They love me as a person. It just seems like a great area to be and I could definitely see myself here.”

Starr also met with Hugh Freeze and cornerback Keionte Scott.
“I met with him for a while,” Starr said. “He’s a great dude, too. Meeting him for the first time was cool. Talking to him and him talking to my family was pretty cool. The people here are great. They show a lot of love.
“I was with Keionte a lot. He’s a great role model. He told me a lot of things and I learned a lot from him and the players. Just seeing how they interact with each other meant a lot to me.”
Starr took an official visit to Clemson last weekend. He’ll take an official visit to Illinois this weekend and has one scheduled to Missouri for June 21-23. He also will take a visit to Tennessee, but has not locked in a date.
A commitment will come later this month.
“I say that when you know you know, and I kind of got that feeling yesterday (Wednesday),” he said. “But I still got places to go check out, so probably after my last visit. I’ll be back (June 23), so probably around the 25th or 26th … the end of June. I’ll probably have my decision by then.”
