OT7 Championship Recruiting Intel
TAMPA – The OT7 Championship has quickly become the top event of the summer and after having it in Las Vegas and Los Angeles the first two seasons, it has moved to Tampa in 2024. Some of the top recruits in the country are competing this week and On3’s Chad Simmons has the latest recruiting intel after Thursday night’s Adidas Throwdown kicked things off.
5-star CB Dijon Lee
The buzz: Alabama still looks to be the team to beat for Dijon Lee. The buzz is still strong around the Crimson Tide. They will get the last official visit before a decision is expected late in June. Georgia is their biggest competitor and he will be in Athens next weekend before he gets to Tuscaloosa. Texas A&M and Washington are the other two schools on his list.
4-star WR Vernell Brown III
The buzz: Ohio State had Vernell Brown III back on campus last weekend and the Buckeyes made a strong showing. The Big Ten program is up against three in-state schools for the playmaker out of Orlando Jones. It still looks like Brown will be tough for Ohio State to pull out of Florida based on intel. Florida and Florida State continue to be the schools with the most buzz around them. Those two, and Miami, will receive official visits in the coming weeks.
4-star SAF Hylton Stubbs
The buzz: Hylton Stubbs had a great official visit last weekend and he still has the Trojans on top of his list. The USC commit will take official visits to Florida and Miami later this month. Florida is still viewed as the biggest threat to USC. Miami is not going away though. Both visits will be important, but what could be more important is the season. Stubbs wants to see all three schools on the field and how they have improved since last season.
4-star CB Adonyss Currie
The buzz: Adonyss Currie is committed to Texas A&M and he is “locked in” with the Aggies. Michigan Oregon and Washington are still reaching out, but he is not planning to visit any other schools at this time.
4-star WR Talyn Taylor
The buzz: Georgia had Talyn Taylor on campus for an official visit last weekend and the buzz is picking up around the Bulldogs. The four-star wide receiver named Georgia his leader earlier this spring and a decision could be nearing. Notre Dame is fading and Ohio State is working to get Taylor on campus soon, but the SEC program has the momentum.
4-star WR Marcus Harris
The buzz: After an official visit to UCLA last weekend, there is some buzz around the local program with Marcus Harris. He likes the new staff and the idea of teaming up with Madden Iamaleave appeals to him as well. The star at Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei has an official visit to Oregon, his dream school, on June 14, then Harris could start to focus on his decision. Georgia is a school high on his list as well, but UCLA is trending.
4-star WR Donavan Olugbode
The buzz: USC had Donovan Olugbode on campus for an official visit last weekend and the Trojans did a great job. Olugbode likes their plan and he connects well with Dennis Simmons. Others like Florida, Oregon and Washington are in the mix, but USC and Missouri are the school with the most buzz around them. Keep an eye on the Tigers. The four-star wide receiver out of IMG Academy will visit Columbia on June. Olugbode is from the Chicago area and has family in the midwest.
4-star WR Naeshaun Montgomery
The buzz: Florida had Naeshaun Montgomery on campus for an official visit last weekend and the Gators made a strong impression. The SEC program in Gainesville needs to be taken seriously in this race after his time on campus recently. LSU will get an official visit on LSU, and the Tigers have always been high on his list. Penn State will get an official visit on June 21 as well. A decision is likely in July.
4-star QB Tramell Jones
The buzz: There is still communication between Florida and Tramell Jones, but the Florida State commit is not expected to take an official visit to the Swamp this summer. It looks like Florida could get Jones back on campus during the season, and that could turn into an official visit, but he continues to feel good about his commitment to the Seminoles. The Gators are not going away.
