Fact checked by Sarah ScottFact checked by Sarah ScottAs a first-generation American whose immigrant parents didn’t know Star Wars existed, I was introduced to the franchise through friends. I remember being 14 years old and mesmerized by this mystical universe of Wookiees, lightsabers, Death Stars, and the Jedi Order. After that first experience, I became a lifetime fan of Star Wars. I have since seen every movie, Disney+ series, and YouTube video explaining every aspect of the Star Wars legacy.Star Wars holds so much nostalgia for me, having grown up with it. As a father of five (and one son-in-law) and granddad to two (ages 5 and 3), I’ve had the pleasure of introducing my family to the Star Wars legacy. Watching the animated Star Wars series Young Jedi Adventures is especially a delight to see my grandchildren light up.That made it incredible to sit down with Star Wars actor Dee Bradley Baker to talk about his experience acting in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and now, Young Jedi Adventures. The second season of Young Jedi Adventures debuts August 14 on Disney+ and is a must-watch.Why 'Young Jedi Adventures' Should Be on Your Watch ListYoung Jedi Adventures is an animated Disney+ series that follows a group of younglings as they learn to become Jedi Knights. The show is set during the High Republic era. For those of you who are Star Wars newbies, that's hundreds of years after the fall of the Old Republic and centuries before the main Star Wars films you're probably familiar with. This group of apprentices learns the ways of the Force, including lessons such as compassion, self-discipline, teamwork, and patience. Master Yoda sends Kai, Lys, and Nubs (the main characters) to the Jedi temple on the planet Tenoo to train under Master Zia. Together, they embark on adventures, fun, and life lessons. This is the first Star Wars series developed for preschoolers, grade schoolers, and their families. It was created to show younger viewers the awesomeness of the Star Wars galaxy. If you’re a parent (or grandparent) who grew up watching the Star Wars franchise, this is a great series to introduce to your young children or grandchildren. You can share the nostalgia and adventure you grew up experiencing. Dee Bradley Baker, who plays “Nubs” in Young Jedi Adventures, says there’s a lot that fans should be excited about with this second season.“New stories, new creatures, and more innovative space fun that Star Wars always brings. I always love going back to that well because it’s not the same—Star Wars is always fresh and new with different planets and aliens. It’s a beautiful, relatable story that you can enjoy with your family,” says Baker.

Kids Can Relate and Be Entertained Baker says the appeal of the Star Wars franchise and Young Jedi Adventures, in particular, is a familiar, fun, and entertaining experience. He says it’s a great space where a family can get introduced to it all.“It’s not too dramatic, it’s a lot of fun, it’s engaging for the kids, it’s an appealing story. There are aliens and spaceships, but it also has a great heart. It takes you where you want things to go when raising a kid and trying to make sense of the Universe,” says Baker. He says his character on Young Jedi Adventures, Nubs, experiences what a young child would experience. His character doesn’t speak English.“Like kids, when you’re so young, you can’t necessarily say the words, but you know what you’re saying. If your friends and family are around and listening—they understand what you’re saying. There’s something very relatable to me about a character like Nubs. That’s what it feels like, I think, to be a young kid,” says Baker. He says children watching will relate to Nubs and the show is terrific for a family to share and enjoy together. Baker says he introduced Star Wars to his family, and his two daughters (now adults) love the movies and series. He recalls fondly watching all six movies over a weekend with his daughters when they were younger.

Introduce Your Kids to a Lifetime of NostalgiaBaker says Young Jedi Adventures is an excellent introduction to Star Wars for kids and young people who might not be ready or understand some of the films.“Young Jedi is preschool age. It’s kinder and gentler but still of the same galaxy. It’s a way in before you venture into the more challenging galaxies,” says Baker. He says the series is where you should start if you’re in preschool or a young child, but Young Jedi Adventures would still entertain parents and grandparents. Baker is grateful to be a part of the Star Wars franchise and a series reaching a new generation of kids. “It’s gratifying to be part of a Star Wars series that’s reaching farther than others. Star Wars meant a lot to me as a kid, and that’s part of the enjoyment and fun of helping to tell the stories to a young person,” says Baker. He says the franchise connects him to the enthusiasm of his youth, and it’s gratifying to see a new generation of kids—including his own—step into the Star Wars Universe and say it’s cool.
