Newsstand: Michigan loses another staffer to Los Angeles Chargers
The Michigan Wolverines will replace another member of their football support staff with news of another departure dropping on Memorial Day. Director of Football Operations Christina DeRuyter announced Monday evening she will become the latest U-M staffer to join former head coach Jim Harbaugh in the NFL with the Los Angeles Chargers.
DeRuyter announced the departure via her social media accounts. Her new role with Harbaugh and the Chargers is set to be Director of Football Logistics.
DeRuyter, who is the daughter of Texas Tech defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter, joined Michigan in 2021. During her time in Ann Arbor, the team won three straight Big Ten Championships with three trips to the College Football Playoff and a national championship win in 2023. It also scored a trio of victories over the hated rival Ohio State Buckeyes.
She had changed positions this offseason to Director of Football Operations from her previous post as the director of on-campus recruiting. Kayli Johnson, the sister of cornerback Will Johnson, was hired this spring into the position.
Despite DeRuyter’s departure, U-M has taken steps to expand its recruiting department. Over the weekend, head coach Sherroen Moore added seven recruiting analysts in Aidan Young, Richard Perry, Reid Kuhl, Preston Sagan, Jacob Weber, Jacob Sakk and Jack Turner.

Extremely sad to report the passing of U-M legend Thad Garner (1979-82). He was 64 years old. Michigan quote of the day
“Any school, regardless of who they are, that thinks enough of him to offer him a scholarship, it’s a pretty awesome thing to have happen. We have encouraged him to enjoy this process. It’s a privilege to go through this process. Michigan is super cool. You talk about the history. We have multiple family friends that have been Michigan fans over the years. You realize who the Michigan fans are when you didn’t know they were, and, all of a sudden, a Michigan offer happens, and they come out of the woodwork. Michigan has such a big fanbase. I think that’s happened more with them than other schools.”
