“No TDM is an L”: XDefiant’s Ranked Modes Revealed, and It Could Be Another Misstep by Mark Rubin and Co.
XDefiant is a title that was released to mixed review. Initially called the ‘Call of Duty Killer,’ the game currently has a lot of rough edges to reign supreme in the genre that Activision has dominated.
The game recently revealed its Ranked Modes, and again, the complaints started pouring in. The only silver lining is that changes have been made to the game based on player feedback, which will most likely continue.
XDefiant’s Ranked Game Modes Revealed, No Signs of Team Deathmatch Leaves Players Disappointed

Mark Rubin has been incredibly active on Twitter, and players have appreciated his passion for his job. The arena shooter has a lot of game modes, allowing players to play however they want.

Recently, the list of game modes that the game offers to its players was expanded, and Team Deathmatch was added. The Ranked playlist is intended for players serious about leveling up and wanting to play competitively instead of casually. Recently, the game modes available in the playlist have been revealed.
This was also posted by the game’s official account on Twitter:
Until then, here's a preview of what to expect in Ranked XDefiant! pic.twitter.com/B5SeXMEDEf— XDefiant (@PlayXDefiant) June 27, 2024
Players reacted to the reveal and expressed disappointment that Team Deathmatch was omitted:

There were also other comments on the post; some of them wanted Escort out and wanted the game to include Search in the Ranked playlist:
PLEASE take Escort out. Game mode just ain’t as fun, unfortunately— SenorFluffy33 (@SenorFluffy33) June 27, 2024
Please add SnD into s2. Heck I’ll take CTF over zone control any day as well— ¢ℓσυ∂z ☁️| Catalyst (@ClouDzFTW) June 27, 2024
Just like there are a lot of opinions every time a major or minor update is released for a popular live-service FPS game, it seems like the criticism is off the charts for Ubisoft‘s arena shooter. It seems like fans don’t consider the game to be still in its early stages, unlike Call of Duty games.
XDefiant Listens to Player Feedback, Which May Be Why People Are Seemingly Never Satisfied With It

It is impossible to please every category of players in the player base. For example, the game was thought to cater only to casuals. This was emphasized significantly when the game penalized bunny-hopping while aiming.

That isn’t to say that there aren’t any positive comments below the game mode reveal for the XDefiant ranked playlist:
@northyhq these are the games we need to start playing for ranked!❤️— djsurtees (@djsurtees) June 27, 2024
Wait this is actually HUGE?! This got me hyped as hell 😳— Oroku Saki (@Tony_Omega) June 27, 2024
Listening to player feedback in a game is refreshing and isn’t seen much in 2024. However, Mark Rubin and Company may need to balance receiving feedback and letting the game team do its own thing.
That is precisely what it needs to dominate in a genre with no competition for Activision truly. Because of that, Call of Duty gets away with many changes and actions that players usually dislike.
What do you think of XDefiant and its ranked playlist? Do you think the g same is headed on the right path or is approaching a trainwreck? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
