There appears to be no bad blood between Caitlin Clark and Diana Taurasi after the Indiana Fever phenom named the WNBA legend as her favorite matchup.
Last March, Taurasi unintentionally caused a stir upon suggesting that Clark would face a lengthy transition period once she turned pro. During a sitdown with ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt shortly after Iowa advanced to their second consecutive NCAA women’s basketball title game, she declared: “Look, SVP, reality is coming. You know, there's levels to this thing. And that's just life. We all went through it.
“You see it on the NBA side, and you're going to see it on this side, where, you know, you look superhuman playing against 18-year-olds, but you're going to come with some grown women that have been playing professional basketball for a long time.

“Not saying that it's not going to translate, because when you're great at what you do, you're just going to get better,” Taurasi clarified. “But there is going to be a transition period where you're going to have to give yourself some grace as a rookie, and, you know, it might take a little bit longer for some people.”
Taurasi was swiftly left eating her words, however, following Clark’s record-setting rookie campaign in which she earned All-Star and Rookie of the Year honors while placing fourth in the league’s MVP rankings. In three faceoffs last year, Clark’s Fever emerged victorious over Taurasi’s Phoenix Mercury each time en route to securing a season sweep.
Though Clark ultimately got the last laugh over Taurasi, the 23-year-old still made sure to pay respects to one of the league’s most decorated players. In a brief clip posted to social media by Nike, she was asked which of the brand’s hoopers was her favorite faceoff.
"You're gonna get me in trouble," Clark replied while letting out a chuckle. "Honestly, I'll just say DT, because she's such an icon in our sport and has been in the game for so long. You know, getting to share the court with her was pretty fun, and you just see her competitive spirit. Even though you're not on her team, you can just feel it as a competitor."
On the heels of the Mercury’s 88-82 loss to the Fever on June 30, Taurasi additionally offered Clark her due praise. "It's amazing what Caitlin's been able to do in her short career. So far, just been nothing short of remarkable,” she said at the time.
"The one thing that I really love about her, she loves the game. You can tell she's put the work in. And even throughout her short WNBA career, it's been a lot of pressure, a lot of things thrown at her, and she keeps showing up and keeps getting better every single game."
