Sacramento Gold FC Defeats Napa Valley 1839 FC 2-1

Napa Valley 1839 FC continued their NPSL season on Saturday, May 4 at Justin Siena Dodd Stadium in Napa, California when they took on Sacramento Gold FC.
It had rained all morning into the mid-afternoon, yet that didn’t stop 350 people from attending the game and enjoying the action. Two days ago, it was 80 degrees in Napa and now it was a chilly 47 degrees at kickoff. The game kicked off a couple minutes after 7:00 pm and immediately had some fast-paced action from end to end. Fans continued to come in as the weather improved.
Four minutes into the game Ryan Kane played a ball across to Sebastian Carbajal, but the goal was disallowed for offside on Carbajal.
In the 30rd minute, Kane put another cross into Dario Pavon for another goal, but it was called offside again. One minute later, the Sacramento Gold went on a counter attack and took the 1-0 lead off an own goal by Napa’s Alvaro Carreras.
In the 35th minute Pavon put a beautiful through ball to Carbajal running down the left side of the field, and he slotted it home on the far side of the goal. The score was now tied 1-1.
With seven minutes of regular time to play in the first half, Oscar Ortiz played a ball through across the face of goal, but three different Napa players couldn’t get there to take the lead.
The second half began with the score tied at 1-1. Carbajal and Pavon would quickly combine again for a goal from Carbajal, but it was called back again. Both teams started getting chances around the 60th minute. Six minutes later, Francisco Magaña slotted a corner kick into the back of the net to give Sacramento a 2-1 lead.
No matter how hard they tried, Napa just couldn’t counter and pull off a goal. The game ended 2-1 in favor of the visiting Sacramento Gold.
Napa Valley 1839 FC’s next NPSL game will be on Saturday, May 18th at 7:00 pm when they host Oakland Soccer Club.
