Lil Wayne Draws Fans’ Sympathy And Apathy Over His Super Bowl Snub Response

Lil Wayne found himself at the center of controversy after Kendrick Lamar announced that he will headline Super Bowl LIX’s halftime show in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 9, 2025. Many folks felt like the Young Money boss deserved the spot instead, a conversation amplified by K.Dot’s beef with Tunechi’s Toronto protégé, Drake. While there are many different angles and perspectives to discuss and debate, the most important one to consider is Wayne’s own feelings. Now, we have a good idea of what those are thanks to a heartfelt video response that landed on social media in the wee hours of Friday (September 13).
“That hurt,” Lil Wayne said of not being selected for Super Bowl LIX’s halftime show. “Hurt a lot. You know what I’m talking about? It hurt a whole lot. I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a let-down. And for just automatically mentally putting myself in that position like somebody had told me that was my position. So I blame myself for that. But I thought that there was nothing better than that spot and that stage and that platform in my city. So it hurt, it hurt a whole lot.

Lil Wayne’s Response To Missing Out On Super Bowl Halftime Show In New Orleans
Lil Wayne officially responds to being snubbed from the Super Bowl Halftime Show…“That hurt, it hurt a lot… I thought there was nothing better that spot, on that stage, on that platform.” “It broke me, but I'm just trying to put myself back together.” pic.twitter.com/rY1h7Z7jiz— NFR Podcast (@nfr_podcast) September 13, 2024
“But y’all… Y’all are f***ing amazing,” Lil Wayne continued. “It made me feel like s**t not getting this opportunity. And when I felt like s**t, you guys reminded me that I ain’t s**t without y’all. And that’s an amazing reality. So, like I said, it broke me. And I’m just trying to put me back together. But, my God, have you all helped me. Thanks to all my peers, my friends, my family, my homies on sports television and everybody repping me. I really appreciate that, I really do. I feel like I let all of y’all down by not getting that opportunity. But I’m working on me and I’m working. Thank you.” Check out reactions to Weezy’s message down below.

Lil Wayne is one of the greats so this is really sad to see BUT the Super Bowl almost never books artists from the hosting city and the whole outrage was more anti-Kendrick than pro-Wayne https://t.co/f9gGIwl2pk— ghost (@ghostfishkillah) September 13, 2024
They treating Lil Wayne like a Make a Wish kid now dawg and it’s embarrassing……— Maybe: Jacoby (@Getthebagcoach) September 13, 2024
they using his sadness to say he unhealthy im finna wild out— 1-0 af (@JayZ0verrat3d) September 13, 2024
I don’t feel bad for Lil Wayne because I’m not feeling bad for someone who aligned themselves with Trump. Such a slap in the face to the Black community and now you want to get online being sad? Save it for your book.— Xay (@hoodopulence) September 13, 2024
no Lil Wayne disrespect tolerated some of yall Kendrick stans being so weird, now Wayne was acting for sympathy on IG live?? like cmon, Kendrick himself would be disappointed in yall comments, I hope they speak behind the scenes, we still dont know the full story— SOUND (@itsavibe) September 13, 2024
I’m sorry, but I think this is absolutely insane. Lil Wayne was NEVER going to headline the Super Bowl, and the ONLY reason him and everyone else is doing this is because it’s Kendrick who got picked. It’s strange and they look crazy https://t.co/VVZCQPOn1y— Drea (@andreamxrie) September 13, 2024
Listen…. Maybe AFTER 2013 he was changed his goal and really wanted to do the Super Bowl… especially after seeing the LA one.. thought and prayers.— Scottie (@ScottieBeam) September 13, 2024
Why did they put Lil Wayne on camera for that smh.. Makes him look smaller than he is, and no congrats to Kendrick makes it look calculated. Like this is really stepping on his moment for no reason.— E (@nwanu) September 13, 2024
We gotta stop using the term crashing out in these types of situations Word used to mean things, this app spent a week talking about how they felt about Lil Wayne not performing the Super Bowl Now Lil Wayne said his peace and kept it rational about himself https://t.co/DF2C9zoX7F— Ahmed/The Ears/IG: BigBizTheGod (@big_business_) September 13, 2024
Anyone that’s complaining about this or saying that Lil Wayne is trying to “victimize himself” and doesn’t deserve to feel this way is genuinely a loser https://t.co/cw7hzKoqOP— ALMIGHTEE. (@realalmightee) September 13, 2024
Elsewhere, many in the industry have their theories as to why this all happened. Some think that there’s not much to really talk about here, and that fans are exaggerating their indignant reactions. Others like Joe Budden, however, think that there’s something murkier going on behind the scenes. We’ll see if any concrete information emerges about this whole debacle…
