Comedian Tig Notaro’s 8-year-old son didn’t realize she & her wife are gay
Out comedienne Tig Notaro is having a weird Pride Month: Her twin seven-year-old sons just realized that she and her wife are gay.
On the Wednesday, June 4 episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, she revealed that her sons Max and Finn only recently discovered that she and her wife, Stephanie Allynne, are gay. Colbert asked how her Pride Month is going and she replied, “I’ll be honest, it’s been a little weird.”

“They will be eight this month… Their school is six minutes away from our house, and at minute three, we were in the front seat of the car talking about something about gay,” she said. “Our son Finn leans forward and says, ‘You’re gay?’”

“I was so stunned because we’ve lived together almost eight years, and I’ve been gay the whole time — even prior, and will continue [to be],” Notaro joked. “So, I was likeb ‘Yes! We are.’ I was so shocked.”
She then said that, as she started explaining to her son what it means to be gay—an age-appropriate explanation of how some boys like boys, and some girls like girls—she began to feel insecure because she worried that her son might actually not like that his mothers are gay. But when she asked him, her son said, “It’s okay, I love my family.”
“We realized that even though there are pictures of our wedding day [at home] and they have two moms, that doesn’t mean they know what gay is,” she said.
Colbert interjected, “And to them, two moms is just normal.”
Notaro joked that maybe her sons didn’t realize she was her wife’s spouse — perhaps her kids just thought she was the house butler.
