Mayor’s Message: June 21
Dear Friends,
School is out, the weather’s heating up, and summer is officially here. We have a lot of fun to look forward to, as we do every summer. But it also means that there will be a lot of people sharing the beaches, Boardwalk, bay, downtown and roadways.
Please slow down, be courteous and remember to follow all the laws that keep everybody safe.
I especially want to remind motorists and pedestrians to respect crosswalk laws. Drivers should stop for pedestrians in crosswalks, and pedestrians should stop and make eye contact with drivers before crossing into a roadway. I also want to urge bicycle and e-bike riders to follow the rules of the road – including stopping at every stop sign and red traffic signal.
Reminders of the traffic safety laws are here: ocnj.us/trafficsafety.
The ocean temperatures are still very cool, and that will make the beaches a great place to escape this weekend’s heat. Check ocnj.us/ocbp_guarded_beaches to see which beaches are guarded. With students now out of school, the Ocean City Beach Patrol will open many more beaches for the season. The OCBP expects to be fully staffed by next weekend.
To make everybody’s beach days more enjoyable, please respect these laws and practices: ocnj.us/beach-faqs.
A Taylor Swift tribute and a Kenny G show on Monday and Tuesday open the 2024 Summer Concert Series at the Ocean City Music Pier. Ticket information on the entire series is available here: ocnj.us/SummerConcertSeries. Bernadette Peters opens the 2024 Ocean City Pops season on June 30, and information on the entire season is available here: oceancitypops.org.
We announced today that Philadelphia Eagles veteran Brandon Graham and his family will be special guests and appear in the 2024 Night in Venice boat parade on July 20. Brandon represents everything that Philly fans love, and it’s a great honor to have the Grahams join us. They’ll get a warm welcome from everybody in Ocean City. Soon after Night in Venice, Brandon will report to training camp for his 15th season with the Eagles.
I hope you all will join me in congratulating Marie Sesso, who recently had her 100th birthday. Marie is a resident of The Shores in Ocean City who celebrated the milestone on June 13.
Have a great weekend and be sure to enjoy all that Ocean City has to offer.
Warm regards,
Mayor Jay A. Gillian
