This Is How You Can Still Make The Most Of Your Summer While Working A Full-Time Job
One of the hardest parts about ‘adulting’ is working a full-time job during the summer. It’s one of those things you don’t really see coming until it clicks that you have to keep working your full-time job for the majority of the summer season.
I remember when I had that epiphany when my friends wanted to make some plans for our first week of summer post-college graduation, and I had already been working a full-time job.
I am one of the lucky ones, as I get to work from home, and that flexibility allows me to work from wherever I want.
Still, it’s very sad to realize you used to be able to wake up whenever you wanted and play all day as a kid during the summer, but now you have to clock into work every weekday morning.
However, there’s no need to get too sad or panic, as there are still ways to enjoy your summer and make the most of it while working full-time.
If you could use some inspiration for ways to enjoy summer fun on and off the clock, here are some tips for you.
Bring summer to your desk
It can be especially hard to get in the summer mood if you work in a more traditional corporate setting with a dreary office.
In that case, you should bring summer fun to work! Do little things like dressing in brighter colors, bringing fun summer treats to eat, adding seasonal fruit to your daily water bottle, etc.

Take advantage of your weekends
If there’s anything I learned from my first summer of working full-time, it is that you should take full advantage of your weekends off from work. This is not the time to play your weekends “by ear.” If you want to have some summer fun, you must schedule things for the weekend.
If you want that overnight beach trip to happen, let your friends know and plan ahead of time. Want to go on that hike? Make sure your itinerary is set before Saturday morning.
Because work will take up so much of your time, you want to take your weekends seriously and cherish that fun and relaxing time off.
Make a fun summer playlist
I don’t know about you, but there is a collection of songs I associate with the summertime, and every year, I like to add them to a big summer playlist that I keep adding songs to.
I’d highly recommend making a summer playlist of your own to get you in the summer mood throughout the day. You can play it in the car on your commute to and from work or while you’re working out, grocery shopping, etc.
Get outside
One of the best parts of the summer is those gorgeous summer days where all you want to do is be outside. It can be hard to be stuck inside working all day, so get outside whenever possible.
If you work from home, bring your laptop to a nice outdoor cafe. If you’re in an office, spend an hour outside every morning or evening to get in that nice weather.
Don’t be too hard on yourself
During my first summer working full time, I would compare myself to my friends with more lenient work schedules and envied their fun summer days out. I would beat myself up if I just relaxed and went to bed after work instead of making plans with friends.
But then, I learned I shouldn’t be too hard on myself because I still had a lot of fun that summer.
If you need to take time to just relax and do ‘nothing’ after a day at work over the summer, that’s totally fine and called for. Summer break is just as much about relaxing and caring for yourself as it is about having fun and going on adventures.
Again, working full-time over the summer can be a bummer, especially if you did a lot of fun summer activities as a kid. However, following these tips will give you a few simple ways to please your inner child this summer and take advantage of the season. Have fun!
