Elderly Lansing Woman Perishes, Husband Injured in Isabella County Head-On Collision
A tragic roadway incident in Isabella County claimed the life of a 76-year-old woman and left her husband in a critical state following a head-on collision on Saturday afternoon, local authorities report. According to ABC12, the crash occurred on Winn Road near Elias Street in Nottawa Township after a 20-year-old man driving a Volkswagen veered into the opposing lane, striking a GMC Envoy carrying the Lansing couple.
The Isabella County Sheriff's Office, as per Upnorthlive, indicated that the 77-year-old man and the 76-year-old woman from the Envoy were immediately taken to MyMichigan E.D. in Midland for treatment after the crash, however, the woman succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving the hospital, this crash remains under investigation. The 20-year-old man from Weidman sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
In the aftermath of the collision, fire department personnel were called upon to extricate the elderly couple from their vehicle. The cause of the crash is being looked into, with some contributing factors being the failure to maintain the lane and the non-use of a seatbelt, as disclosed by 9and10news.
The Sheriff's Office has not released further details regarding the specifics of the investigation or the current conditions of the survivors as of yet, but the preliminary reports from authorities listed "fail to maintain lane" and "no seat belt" hint at potential causes that could have played a pivotal role in the severity of the crash's outcome.
