Nearly nothing says “I love you” more than dropping down to one knee and popping the question to your forever person with a dazzling diamond.
And, apparently, nearly nothing says “I’m an a- -hole” more than asking your partner to buy their own engagement ring. This, according to an outraged online audience that’s currently scorching a skinflint for sticking his sweetie with the bill for her bling.

“[Am I the a- -hole] for asking my girlfriend to pay for her own engagement ring?,” a 24-year-old man posed to Reddit.
“I’d like to propose to her because there’s no reason to wait when we both know we want to marry each other,” explained the Gen Zer.

“The problem is, I really don’t have a lot of money and my [girlfriend] has a good salary,” he continued. “I know she has more in her bank account than I do for now but we’ll eventually have a joint bank account.”
“Since our money will be shared anyway, I asked if she would pay for her engagement ring,” added the tightwad. “I thought this made a lot of sense and wouldn’t be a problem. I was wrong.”
Wrong? Yes. The only penny-pincher to cheap out for a proposal? Sadly, no.

Bella Blake, 28, a Tennessee-based influencer, was devastated upon learning that her groom asked for her hand in marriage with a “custom-made” band he’d previously purchased for an ex-fiancée.
“I love it, it’s beautiful, but it’s not my ring,” Blake moaned on TikTok, adding that her hubby refused to buy her dream 10-karat ring because it was “too expensive.”
Then, of course, there are the miserly men of the “Shut-up ring” trend. Rather than spending a bundle on top-notch tokens of their affection, misers are appeasing eager-to-wed women with junk jewelry.

“I was proposed to with a cluster ring,” Asia Frances, 34, a divorcee from Philadelphia, recently told The Post. Her “shut-up” piece was silver trinket topped with a sea of 0.01-carat diamond chips. “I was so disappointed.”
The Reddit Romeo’s inamorata was, too, disappointed by his request that she cough up the cash for her finger finery.
“My [girlfriend] seemed really offended by this and said that she wouldn’t fully buy her own ring,” he wrote, noting that she’s been “distant” since his awkward ask. “I don’t get this, it’s going to all be OUR money anyway, so why should it matter who pays for the ring?”
Social media savages wasted no time scolding the Scrooge for his “gross” behavior.
“He definitely is not entitled to her money! If she continues this relationship she needs to make it clear no joint bank account,” a commenter remarked, adding, “The [phrase] ‘our money’ is a red flag.”

“I would have been so mad if my partner did this to me,” an equally incensed spectator said. “Also, you are not entitled to her money when you’re married, that’s so gross.”

“If you get dumped in the next 48 hours, I will not be surprised in any way.”
