FC Monmouth Defeats WC Predators 3-1

The conditions at Count Basie Park were unfavorable for both sides as the rain poured down hard on the pitch.
The rain was cold, wet, and relentless. It wouldn’t stop.
This detriment didn’t hinder FC Monmouth’s desire to garner three points at home during their home opener against WC Predators.
Following a rough 3-0 loss away from home against the Philadelphia Union DS, Monmouth were eager to seek out a win and climb the league table. To do it in front of a home crowd added even more incentive.
Despite the rain, the 732 supporters group came to support and watch the blue and gold take the pitch.
A tifo titled “The Boys are Back in Town” was displayed on the field before the game.
The first half was tense. Both teams were hesitant to open up and didn’t want to concede first.
It wasn’t until the second half off of a corner kick that newly signed FC Monmouth forward Daniel Bensch found the back of the net off of a header.
Rowan starlets Davide Caputo and John Troiano then combined for FC Monmouth’s next two goals. Caputo chipped the goalkeeper after breaking away thanks to a slipped through ball from Troiano.
Troiano, meanwhile, had the net to himself thanks to an insightful pass from Caputo.
The two Rowan teammates were on an absolute tear and were able to inspire FC Monmouth forward to a 3-1 victory.
Dan Teneza scored for WC Predators, just before Troiano’s goal which made it three for FC Monmouth.
“It’s good to get our first win this early in the season,” stated FC Monmouth Head Coach John Killick following the game. “Hopefully more to come. The guys played good, and we have a few things we need to fix.”
Killick was pleased with his team’s overall performance, but will still like to see more attacking prowess from the get-go as the season rolls along.
FC Monmouth’s next game is against Atlantic City FC away from home on Monday, May 20.
Atlantic City and FC Monmouth both beat WC Predators 3-1. A fierce battle is sure to arise.
If Caputo and Troiano can keep connecting as they did against WC Predators, it’ll be hard to stop this blue and gold team.
