Pierce joined Undisputed host Skip Bayless and Keyshawn Williams on Thursday to look over the 2024 class.
Sheppard followed in both his parent’s footsteps during his strong collegiate career with the Kentucky Wildcats.
His dad Jeff played for the Wildcats between 1993 and 1998, while his mom Stacey played for the women’s team.
Jeff was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 1998 NCAA tournament and later played in the NBA for the Atlanta Hawks.
Bayless brought up Jeff’s impressive career as the Undisputed panel reviewed the Rockets’ selection of Reed.
“Sheppard’s bloodlines are pretty strong,” Skip said before Pierce interrupted him.
“Sheppard, is that?!” gasped Pierce in response, as the penny dropped on Reed’s family dynamic.
“I know exactly who that is, he was a really good player.”
“Nah this is insane [because] you couldn’t watch a single game last year without seeing them,” replied one fan on X in response to the exchange.
“Paul showing off his research lmao,” laughed another.
“Are we supposed to know who Jeff Sheppard is?? lol,” countered a third.
“I didn’t know that until last night either. I liked his dad’s game,” added a fourth.
Jeff was in attendance at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as his son was taken off the boards at No. 3 overall.
“Just so thankful,” an emotional Sheppard told reporters.
What the new TV deal means for the NBA?
By The U.S. Sun's Assistant Sports Editor Damian Burchardt.
THE new TV rights deal is promising to be a humongous win for NBA players.
The league is set to more than double the revenue coming from its media partners, pocketing about $6.9 billion per year, which will inevitably lead to a huge salary cap spike in 2025-26.
That is going to send the value of player contracts skyrocketing.
Projected figures suggest we might see the first $100 million-per-year deal being signed soon.
Currently, Boston Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown is projected to earn the highest single-season salary in NBA history, collecting $65.1 million in 2028-29.
It does feel like basketball fans would be on the losing side of the fight if the NBA and TNT indeed parted ways, though.
Inside the NBA is a one-of-a-kind sports entertainment show, as evidenced by ESPN’s ongoing failure to come up with its own version of the program in recent years.
The NBA won’t be the same without Kenny and Ernie trying to make sense of Shaq and Chuck’s never-ending bickering every Tuesday night.
“Overwhelmed with appreciation, so proud of Reed and God’s been so good to our family. We’re so glad to be here.”
Sheppard averaged 12.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game last season for Kentucky.
“Just a guy going in who is looking to learn, who is going to do whatever it takes to win,” Reed said after being asked what he will being to the Rockets.
“If it’s not making 3s right away, it’s getting teammates involved, whatever it takes to win and be on the court.
“I’m going to do whatever makes the team better.”
