5-star+ WR Dakorien Moore opens up on LSU, official visit, more
5-star+ wide receiver Dakorien Moore originally committed to LSU in August, then backed off his verbal pledge in mid-May.
From there, Moore – the No. 1 wide receiver on the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2025 cycle – announced an official visit schedule that included Ohio State, Texas and Oregon.
Absent from the list was LSU, but the staff hopped on a flight to Dallas and met with Moore and his mother, Marjahn Moore, to talk about the decision.
By the time LSU offensive coordinator Joe Sloan, LSU co-offensive coordinator Cortez Hankton and LSU running backs coach Frank Wilson left Moore’s house, an official visit date to LSU was locked in for June 6.
“I don’t think LSU was having that,” Moore told The Bengal Tiger at the On3 Elite Series. “They definitely showed me why they want me. All three of them came down there, Coach Frank and Coach Hankton and Coach Sloan – the Big 3.
“They were tag-teaming it and throwing things at me and taking turns with it. Ultimately, after hearing what they had to say, I felt I needed to take that visit and see what they had to offer.”
Ahead of his LSU official visit on Thursday, Moore spent Wednesday evening with former LSU star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who went on to become a first-round pick in the NFL Draft after leaving Baton Rouge.

Now, the 5-star+ wide receiver will head from Dallas to Baton Rouge to spend two nights with the LSU staff as he continues to navigate his recruitment and weigh out where the Tigers stack up following an official visit to Ohio State and ahead of official visits to Texas and Oregon.
“Obviously I don’t know everything (about LSU). I want to see things outside of football,” Moore said. “I’ve talked with coaches and watched film and been at practice and talked with players. Now I am looking to see student-things. What’s it like being on campus as a student? That’s what I am looking forward to seeing.”
Does LSU have a shot to get Moore back into the fold?
“Of course they can,” his mother, Marjahn, told On3.
“He has more insight and information,” Marjahn told On3 at the On3 Elite Series. “I think that has a lot to do with why he stepped back from LSU. At this point, a lot of these schools have the same things to offer. Now, he is looking for something that makes a program different from the others. He is saying, ‘Who has that it factor that tells me that this is where I really should be?’”
“What’s most important for me is life after football. I am looking at the networking capabilities of the institutions. I want to make sure that whatever institution he commits himself to, they bring just as much value to his life as he brings to that institution.”
Texas is viewed as the biggest competition for Moore, in large part because of proximity to family for the Duncanville High star.
“With him being at Texas, I could reach out and see him often,” Marjahn said. “I’m always back and forth between the Dallas area and the Austin area because my grandmother and my great-grandmother both still live there. I can drive down I-35 with my eyes closed. I like the comfort of him being at Texas and the tradition the program has.”
Now, Marjahn said her son will explore what else is out there beyond the Lone Star State, and LSU’s chance to take another swing at the Top 5 overall prospect comes this week.
“It was not an easy decision,” Moore said of backing off his LSU commitment. “Since I was little, I wanted to go to LSU. After taking the visits that I have, and seeing all the opportunities and options I have and the variety of players I could play with and all those things, I came to the decision that LSU might not be the best option, but if it is, I would determine that with a fair chance for everybody.”
With his longtime teammate now enrolled at LSU in former Duncanville High 4-star running back Caden Durham, and the Tigers holding commitments from 5-star quarterback Bryce Underwood and 5-star running back Harlem Berry, Moore said LSU has a familiarity that still holds weight in his process.
“I would say at LSU, me, Bryce and Harlem started that wave of commits flowing through LSU,” Moore said. “We set it off being the top-ranked players at our positions.
“I talked with Caden days before (we committed), and we both had the connection to go ahead and do it and be at the same school. We are that WR and RB duo. You can’t crowd the box when one of the best receivers in the nation is out there on an island 1-on-1. You have to take either one. Once I committed, it felt like another duo who could do big things over there at LSU.”
Moore and his family will be on LSU’s campus from Thursday until Saturday. Stay tuned to The Bengal Tiger and On3 for the latest on the No. 1 wide receiver prospect’s recruitment.
