Taco Bell unveils new ‘Baja Midnight flavor’ for first time in a year – fans ask if they’re ‘in cahoots’ with Starbucks

Taco Bell fans are buzzing over the fast food giant’s new menu options – in particular, the new Mountain Dew Baja Midnight flavor.
The news came during Taco Bell’s annual “Live Más Live” event in Brooklyn, New York, where Taco Bell superfans gathered to hear the brand’s latest announcements.
This year is looking to be a banner year for Taco Bell, with more than a dozen new menu options announced and even more on the way.
Some of the new product launches include the Quesocrisp Taco, Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupa, Flamin’ Hot Burrito, and Steak and Queso Crunchwrap Sliders.
One of the most anticipated items from the reveal is the new Mountain Dew Baja Midnight flavor – a twist on the beloved Mountain Dew Baja Blast, which was created specifically for Taco Bell.
A LITTLE HISTORY
Baja Blast, first introduced in 2004 as a Taco Bell exclusive, is the best-selling Mountain Dew flavor after the original Mountain Dew.
Baja Midnight will feature a similar flavor profile to other flavors in the Baja Blast family, but with a deep purple color and a passionfruit infusion.
The announcement comes shortly after Starbucks unveiled its new coconut refresher – the Midnight Drink.
Starbucks’ Midnight Drink, which contains sweet blackberry and notes of sage with coconut milk and blackberry inclusions, also sports a similar dark purple hue.
Fans were quick to notice the similarities, with one fan on X questioning if the midnight-themed drinks were more than a coincidence.
“Starbucks did a midnight flavor series this month too,” wrote X user Teal.
“Are they in cahoots?”
The new Mountain Dew Baja Midnight flavor will debut this summer, while the Starbucks Midnight Drink is already available to order.
Also releasing this year are Taco Bell’s Grilled Cheese Burrito with shredded beef, Rolled Poblano Quesadilla, Crispy Chicken Nuggets, and Mike’s Hot Honey Diablo Sauce – a new Taco Bell sauce collaboration with Mike’s Hot Honey.
The chain will also roll out two new menus for 2025: the Caliente Cantina Menu, available now, featuring a new spicy sauce for its slow-roasted Cantina Chicken items; and the Decades Menu, which will reintroduce old fan favorites from past decades, including Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos and the Double Decker Taco.
Taco Bell has not yet announced release dates for all of its upcoming menu items.
