Epic White Marlin Bite

It was slower today, but yesterday the white marlin fishing was so good off of Ocean City that some captains said it was the best they've seen in 30 years! There were multiple boats in double digits and the private boat Billfisher had 40.....yes 40 white marlin releases. Here's the Facebook post with pics from Sunset Marina in West Ocean City......
Yesterday was a huge day for bill fishing in Ocean City MD some have even said it was the best fishing they've seen in 30 years! "Billfisher" came in with 40 white releases, "Mamma Seata" with 21 white releases and 1 blue, "Reel Chaos" with 19 white releases, "C-Boys" with 11 white releases, "Sea Hag" with 14 white releases and a blue release, "Primary Search" with 14 white releases and a blue release, and "Kilo Charlie" with 19 white releases!! A huge day at Sunset Marina!
There were some cobia captured off of Ocean City today with some pretty nice fish in the mix. Nick Smallwood and crew speared a couple of real nice fish on the inshore shoals.
Steve Hadley, Joe Schweiger and Tyler Enslin found some cobia today as well fishing on board the private boat Unreel.
Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters had a small cobia on board today in the OC Inlet where he also put his anglers on bluefish, a triggerfish and a nice sheepshead.
Anglers fishing on board Fish Bound with Captain Kane Bounds have had great trips recently with some big sea bass, some ling, some mahi and a few flounder.
Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported a decent bite today with plenty of sea bass, some mahi and one big monkfish.
Captain Monty Hawkins had a few mahi today and some very nice sea bass.
Less standing wave slop at the inlet's mouth this morning; immediately after clearing the ocean/bay confluence we discovered yesterday's small ground swell dissipated - was smooth sailing.
We stopped at Lucas Alexander's Reef where Ms Lexi deployed a bamboo/block unit and same with two pyramids. Mate Joe took a secci disc reading of 6.5 fathoms visibility. Water quality continues to be extraordinary off the DelMarVa coast.
From there it was trolling lines out & eastward.
Our very first stop for mahi went hot immediately as Lexi used her reef builder's karma to box the first of 3 green beauties off the drop.
Ol man Murphy.. I swear. I was thinking game on - maybe even time for chores this afternoon? Jelly side down guy said 'Naw. You're done boy!'
With perhaps a dozen more stops?
Uncle.
No Mas!!
So I tried a big piece of structure
..and caught one throw back sea bass.
Mercy!
From there to a tiny bit of structure I'd stumbled upon years ago. It cannot have the footprint of a Volkswagon Beetle.
Boom! Even some doubles..
Fishing!!
Then to a natural rockpile where sea bass were even forty feet off the bottom feeding on krill.
Caught not one keeper.
I took tomorrow off the book by mistake. Thought I had a reef monitoring dive trip - I do not.
Maybe a much needed day off then? On such a beautiful day?
Yeah. Probably not. There's too much about our ocean and seabed we're ignorant of.
Cheers,
Monty
