Mother’s Day weekend was almost very different for BIP stars Astrid Loch Wendt and her husband, Kevin Wendt. He took to social media to share a dire warning with fans after his son stopped breathing in the bathtub. What happened?

BIP Couple Have 2 Children After Struggle To Conceive
Astrid Loch and Kevin Wendt met on Season 5 of Bachelor In Paradise. But love didn’t fully bloom until after they left the beach. They got engaged in 2019 and married in 2022.

A year before they got married, they welcomed their first son, August. The couple struggled to conceive, and their newborn baby contracted COVID shortly after birth. But their firstborn is thriving now and turns 4 later this year.

The BIP fan-favorite couple became a family of four in 2023 after the birth of their second son, Nash. Astrid Loch Wendt opened up last year about whether they want to expand their family even more.

Kevin Wendt Shares Warning After Son Stopped Breathing
Kevin Wendt took to social media over the weekend to share a parent’s worst nightmare. He detailed an incident involving their youngest son, Nash. The BIP alum revealed that their son stopped breathing while Astrid was bathing both children.

According to Kevin Wendt, he heard his wife screaming for him upstairs. When he got to the bathroom, he saw that Nash was blue from the chest up and couldn’t breathe. Apparently, the young boy was choking on his own saliva.

As a trained firefighter, Kevin Wendt knew what to do. He revealed that he pounded his son’s back and then performed chest compressions. Luckily, he was able to get his son breathing again, and the story didn’t have a tragic ending.

As a result of the situation, he wanted to remind his followers of the importance of learning first aid and CPR.

“***PSA to all parents with young children. Forward this or tag someone who needs a gentle reminder to learn CPR/ first aid. Even if this message reaches just a couple of you and you get on it, it’s a good day. 14 years as a firefighter I can tell you firsthand,” – Kevin Wendt, Instagram.

Fans Share Their Own Scary Experiences
Having their child choke or stop breathing is one of the scariest experiences for a parent. However, it’s exceedingly common. Kevin Wendt’s social media followers took to the comments on his post to share their reaction to his warning.

“This might be the most important vid I’ve seen on social in years. Maybe ever.”
“So scary. As a NICU nurse I have always said CPR should be part of prenatal classes”
“I have tears for you snd Astrid hearing this. I can’t imagine the panic.”
Several fans also took the opportunity to share their own stories. One fan wrote, “My 18 month old choked on dried fruit last week. I did the back blows as well and came flying out. I knew exactly what to do because of first aid courses.”

Another shared, “When my oldest was 18 months, she choked on goldfish crackers and I had to do back blows until paramedics got here. It was terrifying but I’m so glad I took first aid and cpr.”

For those who say they are too busy to take CPR classes, Kevin Wendt suggested something as simple as watching a video on YouTube that shows how to perform basic CPR.
