Gut Feelings: Intel & insights into Florida Gators recruiting

Here are some quick thoughts on Florida Gators recruiting after Week-1 of a two-week road trip …
*Between 4-star offensive tackle Tavaris Dice and 4-star defensive lineman Malik Autry — the two Auburn commits I visited Friday — it feels like Florida has the best chance of flipping Dice. Now, to be clear, it’s going to take continued work to land either one of them. I’m told the Gators are optimistic with both, but probably more so with Dice. Meanwhile, it sounds like the Tigers feel better about holding onto Autry of the two.
The Gators love both of them as prospects. And it’s easy to see why. Dice and Autry not only have NFL-type frames but are highly intelligent. Florida is pitching each on the opportunity to compete for early playing time as a Gator. At offensive tackle, Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson is a redshirt senior. And on the defensive line Cam Jackson is a senior.
If I had to guess, I’d put Florida’s chances with Dice at 45 percent (and possibly rising) and Autry at 35 percent. Both are officially visiting Florida this summer so those will be crucial.

*After meeting up with 4-star linebacker Tavion Wallace of Jesup (Ga.) Wayne Couty at a track meet in middle Georgia on Saturday afternoon, I came away thinking the Gators were deeper into his recruitment than I previously thought. Wallace grew up a huge Florida fan and his dad remains one today. At one point, Wallace’s father had a blue truck painted with Gators signage. Make no mistake, Florida State is the favorite and Georgia probably can’t be counted out either, but the gap between the ‘Noles and Gators (which I think is his No. 2 team) isn’t nearly as big as it once was entering his officials. FSU has recruited him the longest and probably has been the most consistent with him, so Florida must find a way to overcome those longstanding ties.
*Last Thursday, I wrote about 4-star running back Ousmane Kromah of Lee County (Ga.), who plans to officially visit the Gators on June 14. While he talked up Florida and his relationship with running backs coach Jabbar Juluke, most of the sources we’ve chatted with think Georgia might be in the best spot at this time with FSU next. Of note, first-year Georgia running backs coach Josh Crawford once worked at Lee County. The Dawgs are believed to be recruiting Kromah extremely hard and have really put the foot on the gas this year.
Kromah, by the way, is longtime friends with Florida’s newest 2025 commitment, defensive lineman Jeramiah McCloud. McCloud plays for Gadsden County (Fla.), which is just north of Tallahassee. But he’s actually from Lee County and once was teammates with Kromah. McCloud plans to work on Kromah, but sources tell us that’s not likely to have an impact on his choice.

*Saturday, I put in an On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine pick for Memphis to land 4-star quarterback Antwann Hill of Georgia, whom I met with Thursday in Warner Robins. For those who have been reading our reports in recent weeks, this pick probably didn’t surprise you. We’ve been well ahead with Hill info — and all the current intel has him favoring the Tigers. For Hill, the biggest thing here is the chance to play early. Memphis has a senior QB in 2024 so the job will be open next spring. Although he likes Florida a lot, he’s not crazy about the prospect of sitting behind DJ Lagway, who’s only a freshman this year. So if the Gators plan the push for Hill (he will officially visit them May 31), they will have to sell him on the idea that he’d get great coaching/development and that Lagway might only be in Gainesville for three years. The other thing here is that he said Memphis is by far recruiting him the hardest.
*Four-star edge Isaiah Gibson of Warner Robins is a Southern California commitment, but we haven’t talked to many who think he will stick with the Trojans. Official visits will go to Florida, Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Ohio State — and not USC. He made a multi-day trip to Los Angeles this spring. Florida has a puncher’s chance. Gibson not only will officially visit the Gators, but it seems likely he will attend a game at The Swamp this fall — probably in September for either the Miami or Texas A&M games. Now for the bad news. Georgia is the team I’m hearing the most about with Auburn probably next.
