Substation Failure Forced Widespread Outages In Barnegat, Waretown
BARNEGAT, NJ — Thousands of residents of both Barnegat and Waretown found themselves without power again Wednesday night into Thursday morning, after just experiencing the same thing a few days prior.A failed part at the substation in Waretown needed emergency replacement Wednesday night, which meant that residents experienced yet another round of outages, JCP&L spokesperson Chris Hoenig told Patch. While it was inconvenient, Hoenig said that the replacement needed to be done Wednesday. "We had no choice on the timing," he said. But the reason it failed is still unknown."Our first priority was getting everyone's power restored," Hoenig said, adding that investigation into the failure will "take a little time."The other outages were weather-related, he said.Hoenig also said it was possible that the substation failure was a delayed reaction from severe weather earlier in the week. But it won't be known for sure until investigations are complete.According to the JCP&L outage map, a handful of customers are still powerless in Barnegat Thursday afternoon. Those are expected to have power returned by 3 p.m.The article Substation Failure Forced Widespread Outages In Barnegat, Waretown appeared first on Barnegat-Manahawkin, NJ Patch.
