She Vanished From Her Home In 2019, Leaving Behind Her Dog And A Cut-Up Watermelon In The Refrigerator, Ready For Her Grandchildren To Eat
In 2019, 53-year-old Sandra Crispo moved from Quincy to Hanson, Massachusetts, in order to be closer to both her daughter, Laina McMahon, and her grandchildren.
Sandra lived alone, but Laina worked as a nurse in Boston and often had long shifts. So, Sandra would typically spend time at home caring for her three grandchildren.
However, just three months after relocating to Hanson, Sandra disappeared and has been missing ever since.
It all began on August 7, 2019, when Laina showed up at Sandra’s home – located on Spofford Avenue – to drop off Sandra’s grandchildren. Then, Laina left for work.
Later that day, Sandra reportedly had some problems with her car. So, her son-in-law picked up her and her grandchildren. Sandra also brought her car to a repair shop and provided her daughter’s phone number as a point of contact for the mechanic.
Afterward, Sandra got a ride to a Cumberland Farms store located near her house. There, she purchased cigarettes, as shown on surveillance camera footage.
Then, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Sandra was brought back to her home and dropped off. That same evening, she spoke to her family on the phone for the last time.
The following day, August 8, 2019, the mechanic from the repair shop reportedly contacted Laina and claimed more auto parts were needed to fix Sandra’s car. So, Laina tried to call her mom’s home phone, but she was unable to get in touch with Sandra.
This particularly concerned Laina, given the fact that her mom didn’t have a car at the time and, in general, wasn’t known to leave home much.

Still, it wasn’t until the next day, August 9, 2019, that Laina realized something was wrong. That morning, she showed up at her mom’s house to drop off the kids as usual. Yet Sandra was nowhere to be found.
“I peeked through the windows. All the lights were on; the AC was on. I went to the back door, expecting it to be locked. It was unlocked. I found her dog, cowered in a recliner, he appeared timid,” Laina recalled.
After this, Sandra was never seen or heard from again, and she was ultimately reported missing to the Hanson Police Department.
Again, her dog was discovered alone inside her home – left without any water or food. Additionally, Sandra left behind a cut-up watermelon in the refrigerator, ready for her grandchildren to eat.
She vanished with just her purse and her shoes. She did not own a cell phone or a computer at the time and only communicated with her family via her landline. There has also been no activity on Sandra’s bank account since she vanished.
Investigators spent weeks searching for Sandra, but they uncovered no evidence or indicators of foul play in her disappearance.
“The extensive efforts of investigators include but are not limited to canvassing 16 area streets, reviewing video surveillance available from the area, performing 200 door-knock interviews, inquiring with the MBTA and rideshare services operating in the vicinity of Hanson, utilizing canines, the State Police Airwing, and underwater drones for searches of woods and swamp, and following up on any leads received,” said Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz in a statement.
He also said that “the investigation remains active and ongoing,” despite the exact circumstances surrounding Sandra’s disappearance remaining unclear.
For Laina, the lack of answers has been extremely trying.
“Every day, it’s like, is this going to be the day that we get a phone call that they find her, they arrested somebody? It’s unfathomable living like this every single day,” she said.
Still, she has not given up the fight for justice.
“I’m hopeful we’ll get answers. I’ve accepted the most probable outcome is that she is not alive. But there is nothing we can do about it, unfortunately. We just got to keep moving and hoping that justice will be served,” Laina said.
At the time she vanished, Sandra was five foot six or five foot seven and weighed between 125 and 130 pounds.
