Bobcat Bonnie's Closes Corktown Restaurant In Detroit
DETROIT — Bobcat Bonnie's is closing down its flagship restaurant in Detroit.The Gastropub, which opened along Michigan Avenue in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood ten years ago, is immediately closing its doors, owner Matt Buskard said in a statement."It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of our original Bobcat Bonnie’s in Corktown," Buskard said. "This decision is heartbreaking, but we must make one based on where things are currently in the economy."The Corktown restaurant is the fourth to close down over the past few months. Its Wyandotte location closed down in January and two other metro Detroit locations closed down last year.In those closings, Buskard has cited recent restaurant challenges and struggles that were primarily caused by the pandemic and a tough business climate with a downward trend in sales.Buskard said the majority of staff that worked at the Corktown restaurant will be moved to the Ferndale restaurant, which will remain open along with a location in Lansing.The upbeat and hip restaurant is best known for its burgers, sandwiches, salads and a variety of sides.Buskard also thanked Corktown for "a great 10 years.""Over the years we have proudly served the downtown community, and Detroit’s Oldest Neighborhood - Corktown," Buskard said. "We have seen Tiger’s Stadium go from a lot to an amazing facility with PAL.
