Assault Suspect Chase Ends With Standoff In Chatsworth

LOS ANGELES, CA — An assault suspect led police on a chase through western San Fernando Valley ending with a standoff in Chatsworth Tuesday afternoon.Ultimately, the suspect, surrendered to police about an hour after the chase began.The chase began at about 2:30 p.m. in the 20400 block of Baltar Street in the Winnetka area at about 2:30 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Drake Madison.Officers were responding to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, he told Patch. "The suspect was (the caller's) brother with a black hat and black clothing, who was threatening family members with a knife and was possibly under the influence of narcotics," Madison said.The suspect fled in a small SUV, and officers gave chase at slow speeds topping out at 50-60 miles per hour and sometimes going the wrong way against traffic. Pursuing officers conducted multiple PIT maneuvers, but they were unable to stop the driver. Ultimately, he pulled over in the Chatsworth area near Cozycroft Avenue and Plummer Street. He remained in the car for about 10 minutes as officers waited with guns drawn until about 3:30 p.m. when he surrendered to police, according to the LAPD.No one was hurt in the chase, which came a day after Los Angeles police repeatedly shot a man whose family called to report he was suffering from mental illness and may be a danger to others.
